Hyrox Time Calculator: Project Your Finish Time

A Hyrox is 8 kilometres of running cut into eight one-kilometre efforts, eight stations slotted between them, and a transition zone almost nobody counts. The calculator below rebuilds the finish time segment by segment.

The format, and why running weighs so much

The sequence never changes: one kilometre of running, one station, repeated eight times. The stations come in a fixed order, known in advance.

Eight kilometres is more running than most people remember from the format. For an average finisher it accounts for about half the clock, and the share climbs with level: the calculator gives 49 percent on the beginner preset and 55 percent on the elite one, because people improve faster at the stations than at running. So the first lever is almost never the station that scares you, it's your running pace.

With one qualifier that changes everything: this running happens tired, never fresh. Your solo kilometre pace has nothing to do with what you'll hold after a Sled Push. Counting on 45 to 75 seconds per kilometre slower than your normal running pace is a realistic order of magnitude, and the gap widens with accumulated fatigue.

The Roxzone, the time nobody counts

Between every run and every station there's a walk through the transition zone. Eight of them, 30 to 70 seconds each depending on level and on how the venue is laid out.

Total: five to nine minutes. That's more than most individual stations, and it's the cheapest time on the whole course to claw back, because it demands no extra fitness.

Three things shrink it. Knowing where to go, which means having looked at the venue map before starting. Not stopping to catch your breath between the end of a kilometre and the start of a station, because the clock runs while you recover. And not drinking at every changeover: two stops are enough, the rest is time given away.

Where the time goes, by level

The orders of magnitude below are the ones the calculator uses as starting values. They're reference points rather than official standards: real times vary a lot from venue to venue, depending on the sled surface and the length of the transitions.

What the calculator teaches once you play with it

That's its main value, and it's bigger than the projection itself: it puts numbers on the trade-offs.

Taking 15 seconds per kilometre off eight runs saves two minutes. Taking 30 seconds off the Wall Balls saves thirty seconds. That asymmetry decides training priorities, and it explains why so many build-ups miss: they grind at the hated station while the real reserve sits in the ability to run tired.

Two exceptions deserve knowing. The Sled Push and Sled Pull are where individual gaps get most violent: between someone who knows how to push and someone who endures it, there are two to three minutes across those two stations. And the Wall Balls, last in line, get paid for by everything preceding them: a decent time there depends mostly on how the previous seven stations were managed.

Reading your own time honestly

A total on its own says very little. What informs is its breakdown, and one question: how much of the clock is running, and how much is everything else?

The useful comparison is your running share against the range across the presets, which runs from 49 to 55 percent. Clearly above it, running is your relative weakness and easy volume is the training to do. Clearly below it, the stations are, and strength and trunk work is what pays.

That reading beats any comparison with the person next to you, because it names what to train next week.

There's a third pattern worth naming, and it's the most common of all: a breakdown that looks balanced while the last three segments are noticeably slower than the first three. That isn't a strength problem or an engine problem, it's a pacing problem. The fix costs nothing and gains minutes, which is to start the first two kilometres slower than feels right and let the second half of the race be the fast half.

How long does a first Hyrox take?

Between 1:30 and 1:50 for the large majority of first attempts, and anywhere in that band is a success. A first finish time depends mostly on familiarity with the format: a lot of time gets lost the first time in transitions and in going out too hard over the first three kilometres.

Should I run faster or move faster at the stations?

For most participants, run. Running is close to half the clock, so every second saved per kilometre gets multiplied by eight. Stations earn the work when one of them is clearly behind the others, or when it's a sled.

Why is my running pace so slow during the race?

Because it happens after a high-intensity strength effort, with the heart rate already up and the legs loaded. A gap of 45 to 75 seconds per kilometre against your fresh pace is normal. Closing it is a training objective in its own right, and it gets trained by deliberately chaining strength then running.

What does the Roxzone actually cost?

Five to nine minutes over a full race, which is more than most stations. It's the easiest line to improve without gaining any fitness, and the one most often ignored in preparation.

Do times change by division?

Yes, noticeably. Pro division loads are heavier, which lengthens the carrying and pushing stations most. In Doubles, splitting the stations shortens the total while changing the pacing completely. The calculator is indifferent to division: it adds up the times you give it.

How do I train the station that sinks me?

By working it twice a week at low volume instead of once at high volume, and sometimes placing it right after a kilometre of running so it gets done in the state it arrives in on race day. A station tested cold gives a time that doesn't exist during a race.

Should I do full simulations in training?

One or two across a build-up, no more, because the recovery cost is that of a race. The rest of the time, half formats or blocks of four stations teach the same lessons for half the bill.

Does the venue affect the time much?

More than people expect. The length of the transitions, the surface under the sled and how crowded the floor is can move the same fitness by several minutes from one event to the next. Comparing two times set at two different venues calls for caution.
